Benefits of Swim LessonsIn Houston, hot summers usually take families to the pool. As home pools and club pools become more common in the city, it is imperative to make children and parents understand the danger in and around the water. Statistics continue to indicate that children under the age of five have the highest rate of drowning. ![]() We feel at Saint Street Swim that swim lessons are the most important preventable measure. Parent education about water safety is also very important. Saint Street Swim has water safety pamphlets available for your family. We all know that it is never safe to leave a child unsupervised around the water. Children who experienced swimming lessons gain respect for the water and the skills necessary to make them safer around the water. In our classes at Saint Street Swim we focus on safety skills first. In our beginner classes, students learn how to fall from the wall and grab the wall to exit the pool. Beginner students always swim back to the wall or steps. We never encourage non-swimmers to jump out to us. Students also get familiar with the wall and how to hold on and use their hands to move along the wall. Swim lessons not only make your child safer around the water; studies indicate that infant aquatic education improves muscle strength, increases motor skills, and enhances the immune system of the developing infant. Toddlers and school age children also benefit from swim lessons. A regular swim program provides a great source of exercise for your child and at the same time improves strength and coordination. Swim lessons provide children with skills they can use now and for the rest of their lives.
